On November 9th, the Brazosport FFA attended the District VI Leadership Development Events contest in in Pearland at the Robert Turner College & Career High School. The chapter took 7 teams to competition, with 3 teams placing in the Top 10 of their event, and one team advancing to Area Contest.

The Ag Issues team placed 2nd, earning their advancement for the second year in a row.  Team members in the picture below include (L-R) Emily Guevara, Cami Gartman, Merry Wallace & Caitlin Freshour. They will compete again on November 19th at Blinn College against the best from all around Area III.

The Greenhand skills team placed 4th, earning the chapter its first banner in this event. Members in the picture above include (L-R) Vincent Anderson, Landon Winton, & Ryan Zuniga. Our Senior Skills team placed 9th with Victor Guevara, Blaise Warren, Katelyn Kneis & Hunter Quick competing. Victor & Katelyn also competed on the senior quiz team alongside Victoria Martinez, while Vincent also competed on the Greenhand Quiz team with Brayden Sanderson and Angel Rostro. Additionally, we had two young ladies represent us in the Senior Creed Speaking & Job Interview Contests. Amber Robles, creed speaker, finished 18th and Maryfer Ramirez placed 11th.

There are 28 schools in the District VI association, and over 25,000 members in the Area III association. The Texas FFA is the largest state association in all of the National FFA with over 115,000 members, and the FFA is one of the largest youth scholarship organizations in the world, with over $2 million available to Texas members. Texas FFA prepares members for careers in agriculture-related jobs such as veterinary science, marketing, food processing and natural resource development. It is estimated one in five people in the United States are working in jobs connected to agriculture, so events such as these, are providing our students with integral knowledge and skills necessary to their futures. All the teams competed well this year, and the Brazosport FFA chapter is proud of all their teams & their hard work while greatly anticipating Spring CDE Events!  Good Luck to our Ag Issues team at Area!!
