Brazosport Hosts Academic UIL Invitational

The event, originally scheduled for January 24 and postponed due to inclement weather, welcomed students from five schools across the Greater Houston area: Brazosport, Fort Bend Crawford, Stafford, Royal, and Brazoswood.

Each campus brought a full team, resulting in 254 total contest entries and more than 120 students competing in academic events ranging from writing and speaking to mathematics and social studies. The invitational provided students with valuable preparation ahead of district-level UIL competition.

Brazosport students earned several individual and team honors:

1st Place
Scarleth Avalos-Ortiz – Editorial Writing

2nd Place
Osman Higareda – News Writing
Number Sense Team – Gavin Lai, Eli Salinas, Khloe Morton, Nathan Torrez
Social Studies Team – Christian Calcote, Paula Aluiso, Josue Ramirez Padilla

3rd Place
Mariah Rodriguez – Prose Interpretation
Teresa Guttierrez – Informative Speaking

Additional top-six finishers included Annabelle Kilburn (Poetry Interpretation), Joyice Butler (Literary Criticism), Allison Lira (Persuasive Speaking), Kian Gomez (Feature Writing and Headline Writing), Gavin Lai (Number Sense), Christian Calcote (Social Studies), Paula Aluiso (Social Studies), Nathan Torrez (Number Sense), and Eli Salinas (Number Sense).

UIL Coordinator Mr. John Long expressed appreciation to the staff and volunteers who helped administer contests and support students throughout the day. Their efforts ensured a smooth, professional event that strengthened preparation for upcoming competitions.

The Brazosport Invitational continues to grow and remains an important opportunity for students to sharpen academic skills while representing their campus with pride.
